Greetings -
I hope this email finds you all well, and hopefully are placing more and more bunnies every day. You might remember me, a little over a year ago I adopted Kennedy and while I tried to keep her as an 'only child', I realized she was miserable so I asked for your help and soon we came home as three. I can't remember what the little one's name was at Brambley Hedge, because I changed it to 'Velvet' a couple of days afterward.
I can't tell you what a blessing these little critters are to my life. I am thankful for them every single day. There are so many stories that it would take days, if not weeks to tell you all of them. Even though I've had rabbits for the last 10+ years I really think this is the strongest bonded pair I've ever had. They groom each other daily and it always brings a smile to my face.
I'm happy to say they are free range bunnies in my home. I do have a pen where their food, water and litter box resides, but it is always left open. The day I found Velvet on my desk, pulling papers off the shelves above, I knew I needed to find an outlet for his extra energy. So I taught him how to climb up and down the stairs. I've tried to teach Kennedy, but she had absolutely NO interest in them, and since I've never found her on the desk, I figure she's fine. So we have a daily ritual, the bunnies are locked in my bedroom with me at night and when I get up in the morning I open the door. Velvet is usually ready and waiting, and on weekends if he wants out before I get up, he lets me know, LOUDLY. Anyway, he takes off down the stairs, and usually spends the day sleeping underneath the couch. Kennedy will follow him to the staircase, but she always stops there.
Because I have a roommate, I keep my bedroom door closed, but not latched, so Velvet can always get back in. He doesn't always come upstairs at the same time each night, but it is definitely the same routine. I'll be in my room usually sitting in my bed, working on my laptop, and dramatically the door will fly open. Then after a short pause I see those cute little ears come hopping though. As soon as Kennedy sees him, she races to him and grooms him as if to say "Where have you been?! I've missed you SOOO much". One of these days I'll have to try to get it on video, it is truly a precious sight.
I've attached a couple pictures, but be warned, they are much ummm how do I say it politely, 'huskier' than when I first brought them home. But according to our Vet they are within normal weight. I buy hay by the bale because they won't eat anything else, and it's always available, and then I alternate between fresh greens and pellets for their nightly dinner. I actually think they eat better than I do... lol
So thank you so much for bringing so much joy to my life.
Take Care,
Ruthann, Kennedy and Velvet
