LOLLY LOP

Lolly (left) and her soul mate Manny

As luck would have it, I happen to be a difficult person to impress. Yeah, sure, bunnies are cute and fuzzy and all...but I've seen all the same colors and breeds and faces so many times, that it begins to lose its allure after awhile. Bunnies come and go through the rescue, and the faces are mostly the same with some uniqueness in between. But, this is a story about luck, not about faces in a crowd.

A day came when an old man realized just how difficult it is to care for a pair of bunnies. One of these bunnies was a previous adoption from Brambley Hedge, and her mate was a rescue from a feed store, where he was ill taken care of and was being sold as a delicious appetizer for somebody's boa constrictor. When this man brought them both back to Brambley, everyone stood rigid as they watched him say goodbye. It's difficult to say who looked more sad....the bunnies, who didn't understand why they were leaving the comfort of their home, or the man, who understood very well what was happening, but loved his fur babies more than words could ever say.

And so Lolly Lop and Manny had arrived into our healing arms and ever-so-loving hearts...

Lolly, a 5 pound mini lop mix, was bonded to the love of her life (well....her second one!) Manny, a tiny (just under 2 pounds!) holland lop mix. It was one of the most endearing scenes to pass by when walking past their little habitat together...he would climb up on top of her just to groom between her ears. And Lolly would happily allow this, and she would show her content by clicking her teeth together rapidly and quietly -- a bunny purring technique -- and of course, return the grooming.

You'd never seen a pair to devoted to each other...and one day, many months later, Lolly and Manny met their future family at an adoption...

Their new family was just signing the adoption contract, when a Brambley volunteer noticed a bump in Lolly's jaw. To make a long story short and skip the gory details, after a few weeks of surgeries, recoveries, removals, and illness, Lolly quietly passed with Manny, her forever love, slowly letting her go. She left our world and took the trip to the Rainbow Bridge, where she now binkies free with her first bunny love and all of their friends who have silently made their way through our human world and exited as quickly as they came...

I was incredibly pained to hear the news of Lolly's passing, and without missing a beat, offered to foster Manny for a bit to ensure he didn't slip into a deep depression after losing his true love. Manny has since found his forever home, where he is eternally loved and showered with treats, kisses, nose rubs, and a generous family to share his new life with.

I am convinced Lolly is watching him and is smiling down on all of us for taking such good care of both of them. Tragically, this all happened as they were on the brink of being adopted and whisked off to the perfect life. However, happily, Manny has found his place in our world, and Lolly has found hers up by that Rainbow Bridge...where all our fur babies watch us and wait for the day we once again cuddle them and nuzzle their fur and tell them how much we have missed them...

For you, Lolly. I'm lucky to have met such an incredible soul as yourself...binky free sweet girl, down all the bananas you can handle, and know that Manny is in the best of hands...

We will see you, someday, Lolly Lop.

Love always,

Tracy (and all your guardian angels that helped you to your final resting space)
