MaMaa

MaMaa
c. 1996 - December 21, 2006

MaMaa, a heartbreaking abuse and neglect case, was rescued from a trash dumpster by some children who found her and her eight one-day old babies therein. Brambley Hedge Rabbit Rescue immediately acquired the near death rabbits and, with nurturing, MaMaa survived but most of her babies did not. Four years later, after continually being passed over in favor of other rabbits, MaMaa found a forever home with me. That was November 2, 2002. With me, the free (no cage) and deeply loved MaMaa overcame her fears and thrived. Sadly, shortly after sharing our fourth anniversary together, MaMaa lost her battle with cancer; she was not a candidate for a third surgery. At 4:55 p.m., December 21, 2006, my beautiful Baby passed from this world to the caress of my hands and the sound of my voice.

MaMaa was a rabbit with a gentle heart and a truly valiant spirit, a girl who triumphed over so many obstacles in life, a girl who grew to be old in spite of early life circumstances not conducive to living a long life. She will be sorely missed. I constructed a nice pine casket for MaMaa who is interred at the base of the angel statue in front of my house. Her mortal remains are here with me but I hope her spirit is at Rainbow Bridge running and jumping and doing binkies with my departed Janis (Yanis), the big lovable boy Lop whose unconditional love brought MaMaa and me together. I did not know rabbits were so smart and so sweet, until an angel brought Janis to show me.

I told MaMaa daily, so many times, and I must tell her again, “You’re my baby . . . and you will always be my baby . . . ‘cuz I love you!”
